How to get to Raja Ampat
To reach Raja Ampat, first fly to Sorong from Jakarta or Bali. Direct flights from Jakarta take around 4 hours, while other domestic flights usually stop in Makassar. From Sorong, take a 10-minute taxi ride to the harbor and catch the ferry to Waisai, which takes about 2 hours.
Ferries usually run once or twice daily (around 9 AM and 2 PM), so it’s best to check schedules in advance on Stay Raja Ampat Ferry Guide. Ferry tickets cost around 125,000 IDR (VIP 225,000 IDR), and the marine park fee in Waisai is 300,000 IDR per person.
From Waisai, arrange a boat transfer to Gam Island through your homestay in advance. The trip takes around 30 minutes and costs about 600,000 IDR per boat — and then, welcome to paradise.
Best time to visit
Raja Ampat enjoys warm tropical weather all year round, with temperatures between 25–31°C, warm 29°C ocean water, and around 12 hours of daylight daily. Rain showers can happen anytime but usually last only a few hours, creating the magical atmosphere the islands are known for.
From June to September, the weather is windier with rougher seas but crystal-clear visibility and fewer tourists — perfect for underwater photography. From October to April, plankton reduces visibility slightly but brings manta season and incredible marine life encounters.
No matter the season, Raja Ampat is beautiful year-round, and every time of year offers its own unique diving experience.

Entering Indonesia and Raja Ampat:
Before visiting Raja Ampat, please check current entry requirements with your embassy. Visitors need a Raja Ampat Visitor Ticket (1,000,000 IDR) and a Marine Park Permit (700,000 IDR) for diving and snorkeling, available in Waisai or online at Raja Ampat Marine Park. Payment and Local Sim Cards
Payments in Raja Ampat are mainly cash, local bank transfer, or Wise, with the nearest ATM in Waisai.
For mobile service, Telkomsel is the main network provider and SIM cards must be registered before use.
Health care & First Aid in Raja Ampat
Raja Ampat is remote and beautiful, but healthcare is limited and infections can spread quickly in the hot, humid climate. Even small cuts should be treated immediately.
We recommend bringing a well-prepared first aid kit with waterproof band-aids, disinfectant, ear drops, antihistamines, charcoal tablets, antibiotic ointment, prescription antibiotics, and tiger balm. Please consult your doctor before traveling to a remote tropical area.
